Put WordPress In Sub Directory and Have the Main Page Show in the Root Directory
This one wasted about 45 minutes of my time. Actually if I was a total programming geek it would have only taken me 15 minutes. But the first two web pages were written with so much technical garbage thrown in it made my head spin.
This is what I wanted. I installed wordpress into a sub directory as recommended for the future. What I wanted though is for the home page of my blog to show up in the root directory. I didn’t want any redirects, they’re evil.
Thanks to Quick Online Tips I found the answer that was written in simple plain English.
All you need to do is copy (download) the index.php file from the sub-directory where you have WordPress installed.
Example: http://www.example.com/example/index.php.
Then you paste (upload) that file into your root directory.
Example: http://www.example.com/index.php.
When you have copied (uploaded) index.php into the root directory open the file to edit it.
All you need to do is change this line
from
require(‘./wp-blog-header.php’);
to
require(‘./example/wp-blog-header.php’);
And there you have it. Piece of cake…..
