Too Much Nonsense – My Personal Blog

This is what happens when you have a bunch of moronic bureaucrats run a program that had such great potential for the American economy. Granted it is doing some good for the local economies with an increased flow of sales & payroll taxes, but the potential good to the whole American economy was slashed in half. Out of the top 10 vehicles being sold with the Cash for Clunkers program six of the ten are Japanese made. According to government statistics, out of the top ten vehicles sold with the cash for clunkers incentive including the Japanese cars, 54% are built domestically. So that means 46% are built in Japan. It appears we are helping out the Japanese economy just as much as ours. Do they need our help? I don’t think so… in 2008 Toyotas profits were 16.7 Billon Dollars. Not too shabby…

What were they thinking? Where was the foresight? Would it have been so difficult to put one more restriction on the program, like… you could only purchase vehicles made from the big 3? Would it have been that difficult? Would we have entered some bizarre political incorrectness and didn’t want to hurt Japans feelings?. The bureaucrats just sent 46% of the money that should go to boost the American economy overseas. I do understand that we live in a global economy and that eventually that money will trickle back into the United States but our need is immediate. Maybe I’m missing something?

The politicians seem to skirt this little Japan issue. If you try to pin them down, they go off on some politically correct environmental point or they’ll point out a state like Ohio. Why Ohio? Ohio is the Honda hub. They manufacture 80% of the spare parts for Honda, but Ohio is just one state.

Obama and his administration are well meaning, but it is mistakes like these that will continue to flush our economy down the drain.

The funny thing is that the top ten trade in vehicles are American made. If that isn’t a statement I don’t know what is.
